Our station and many of our mutual aide stations responded to the crash and recovery of United Flight 93 here in Stonycreek Township. THE CROSS THAT STANDS TALL OUTSIDE OF THE FIRE STATION HERE IN SHANKSVILLE CAME TO BE IN AUGUST OF 2008. MEMBERS OF THE FDNY AND FIRE FAMILY TRANSPORT IN NEW YORK CITY DID A MOTORCYCLE RIDE TO SHANKSVILLE TO BENIFIT THE FAMILY TRANSPORT GROUP. THEY BROUGHT ALONG THE STEEL CROSS THAT WAS PART OF THE NORTH TOWER. FDNY HAD THERE PIPE AND DRUM CORP, FIREFIGHTERS IN CLASS A UNIFORMS AND ENGINE 343. A TRIBUTE ENGINE TO THE 343 FIREFIGHTERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON 9/11. THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS CEREMONY THAT DAY! WE NOW CAN MEMORIALIZE ALL THREE 9/11 SITES,THE CROSS IS FROM N.Y.C, THE BASE IS POURED IN THE SHAPE OF A PENTAGON AND OF COURSE WHEN STANDING HERE YOU ARE IN SHANKSVILLE. #NEVERFORGET
